1) Letter of
recommendation from a faculty member. The letter should address why this
opportunity would benefit you and verify that you are capable of completing
this type of experience. The faculty member should also include their email
address in case we would like to contact them for further information. The
faculty member should give you the letter in a sealed envelope signed across
the back. Send in the letter with your application materials.
2) Statement
of purpose about why you want to participate in the program and what you hope
to gain. This statement should also include who you want to work with (picking
up to 3 people, but you will need to make a case for each person – how do
your interests match that person’s, so only choose multiple mentors if
you can make a case for each one) and specifically why you want to work with
them and what type of research questions you are interested in answering. This
statement is used to match you up with a potential mentor, so the more specific
you can be, the better. The statement should not exceed 3 (double-spaced,
12-point New Roman) pages
