2000
Summer Science Academy

For High School Students

The Summer Science Academy is a one week residential experience designed to let students exercise their research and reasoning abilities. Students in this year's academy learned basic concepts of research, data collection, survey design, computer use and presentation. They also were able to then put their knowledge into action through three hands-on learning experiences, including a library treasure hunt, observational research with crows, survey design and administering exercise, and experiments with honey bees.

The academy occurred between June 11 and June 18, 2000. Students enhanced their mathematical and scientific reasoning abilities. They learned basic research design and statistical concepts, learned how to use computers for data analysis and presentation and as a resource of information, learned more about career opportunities in math and science, and gained information that will assist them in pursuing a college education and later career in the sciences.
