Exploring Quantitative Analysis: A Basic Introduction

Summer Academy dates are June 1 to June 14, 2008.

The application is in the middle of the page. The selection process is competitive - all students will be notified of their status by April 25.

The academy is FREE!!!

All students (including Stillwater residents) must stay in the dorms - there are no commuter options.

Schedule for 2007  - see bottom of page for last year's schedule so you can get an idea of what we will do in this academy

This academy is for students going into the 9th or 10th grades in the fall of 2008. If you participated in 2007 and have not graduated, you are eligible to be a peer leader. Contact Dr. Page for more information.

This academy's goal is to enhance students mathematical and scientific reasoning abilities. Students will learn basic concepts of research design and statistical concepts, data collection, survey design, observational research, computer use and presentation, learn more about careers in math and science, and foster a desire to attend college and pursue such careers. Academy dates are June 1 to 14, 2008.

During this two week long residential academy, they participate in activities from 9:00 to 4:00. Sessions consist of some lecture and computer skill acquisition; most of the time is spent putting their knowledge into action through hands-on learning experiences, including observational research, a survey design and administering exercise, and webpage design, as well as a visit to the Tulsa Zoo to test hypotheses about animal behavior. Students  will also go on several field trips. Preliminary plans include OU-HSC, Frontier City, Gilcrease Museum, and the Omniplex and a Redhawks’ baseball game.

Activities also include the challenge course at Camp Redlands, Jeopardy, and movie nights. Students will stay in traditional college dorm rooms with 24 hour supervision by a graduate student and will be provided three meals a day. Students will prepare all of their meals.

If you are interested, please feel free to contact Dr. Melanie Page, the academy's director, at the email address below. If you would like to apply for a position at the academy, please download an application.

Applications are due April 18, 2008. If you plan to "overnight" your application, please send it by the 16th!

You may also email all parts to meet the deadline. If you cannot scan the completed application form, just put the requested information into a Word document and send that with student's personal statement. I will accept emails from teachers, but they must include a school phone number where they could be reached. Thanks
