THE OSU UPWARD BOUND MATH AND SCIENCE CENTER
The OSU Upward Bound Math and Science Center is designed to:
- Help students recognize their potential to excel in math
or science
- Strengthen math and science skills of participating students
- Encourage students to pursue college degrees in math or
science

- Upward Bound was created by the 1964 Economic Opportunity
Act. A year later, Upward Bound joined two other special programs
for low-income students from disadvantaged backgrounds, Talent
Search and Student Support Services, under authorization of
Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. These three
programs are referred to as "TRIO."
- The U. S. Department of Education created the Upward Bound
Math and Science program in 1990 to meet the need for specific
instruction in the fields of math and science.

- The OSU Upward Bound Math and Science Center was established
in September 2003 with a five-year grant from the U. S. Department
of Education for $1.1 million.
- The OSU Upward Bound Math and Science Center receives additional
funding from Oklahoma EPSCoR through a grant from the National
Science Foundation EPSCoR Grant EPS-0132534.
- The UBMSC is located on the campus of Oklahoma State University
in Stillwater.
What will we do?
You will have fun while learning during our:
Summer
Academy
at
Oklahoma State University
The 6-week summer residential program on the campus
of Oklahoma State University will focus on:
- Math and science training
- Computer training
- Hands-on experience in science labs, computer labs, and
at field sites
- Working with and learning from researchers and professionals
in math and science
Academic
Year Program
During the school year, the program will focus on
- Academic counseling and tutoring
- Career exploration
- College campus tours
- Assistance with college and financial aid applications
- ACT test preparation
- Field trips
What is the Cost?
- There is no cost to students to participate in this program
- Activities, housing, meals, admissions tickets, and other
related costs for the Summer Academy are covered.
- Families are only responsible for transporting their student
to and from the OSU campus for the Summer Academy.
Who Should Apply?
- Students in grades 9 through 11 at a participating school
with at least a 2.0 GPA(Average).
- Students between 13 and 19 years of age.
- Students who show potential for success in college.
- Students who meet specific criteria regarding income and
potential to be a first-generation college graduate.
